Evan Prescott

Books I finished, games that stayed on the table, and whatever else is on my mind.

About me

Illustrated portrait of Evan Prescott

I write documentation for a manufacturing software company, mostly API references and the how-to pages people only read after something's already gone wrong. Ten years doing that now, five at this company. It's made me a genuinely annoying person to read a badly organized rulebook next to. I grew up outside Detroit, moved out here for a job that didn't last and a girlfriend who did, and Priya and I have been playing games together most weeks for about six years now, starting with a battered copy of Dominion she'd had since college.

I write user documentation and API references for a manufacturing software company in Ann Arbor, which mostly means I get paid to notice when an instruction is ambiguous and someone downstream is going to get it wrong. That habit doesn't turn off when I close my laptop. I read a lot of dense stuff, some of it science fiction and some of it not, and I play board games on a small rotation with the same two or three people most weeks. Nothing here is sponsored and nothing is a review copy. If it's on this site I bought it and finished it.

Where I am: Ann Arbor, Michigan

Started actually rating what I read and played instead of just remembering it vaguely, mostly because I got tired of recommending something at a dinner party and immediately not trusting my own memory of whether it was actually good.

What's here

Book reviews, board game reviews, and personal essays. No schedule, no affiliate links, nothing sponsored. I write about a book or a game after I've actually finished it and have something to say, which is why the dates on here are irregular.
